$144K - $183K a year 1 hour ago 1 hour ago 1 hour ago The Hardware Engineering Manager manages all aspects of hardware and electronics development for products made at GSSI from concept to completion.
Responsible for delivering high quality solutions for both modifications of existing products and for new product development efforts.
Helps to make strategic technical decisions as well as manage the day to day needs of the entire group.
Is a key communicator within the entire Engineering group.
Essential Duties:
Serves as the hardware engineering lead and manages the dept.
personnel, budgets, staffing resources and schedules.
Directs external contractors as required.
Effectively communicates the direction and goals of the group on a regular basis Provides hands on support to every member of the HW team as needed Helps to lead the team through difficult and complex technical decisions Directly contributes to HW development efforts on a regular basis Defines a standard process for code reviews and manages to this process Helps to prioritize work against real-time business needs and then communicates these changes to the team quickly Helps management to create long-term product roadmaps, research paths and development efforts Effectively estimates development efforts and then successfully manages against these estimates Effectively works with cross-functional members of the Engineering team as well as stakeholders outside of Engineering Works with employees to establish and maintain personal development plans, supports relevant training opportunities and helps each employee to reach their maximum potential Helps to converge toolsets, development environments, and 3rd party libraries Helps to manage budgets, licensing strategies, and overall departmental needs Ensures all products released for production are documented so that vendors and direct labor people can manufacture assemblies and the final product efficiently and consistently to specifications.
Identifies opportunities for patent applications that will strengthen the company's position in the markets served.
Relationships:
Coordinates all activities with cross functional leaders in Products, Sales, Manufacturing & Marketing to define new product direction and new product releases.
Works closely with contract engineering and manufacturing vendors to ensure new product releases are completed with minimal disruption, and schedules are met.
Accountability:
This position is accountable for budget adherence, meeting new product release schedules and maintaining excellent relationships with technology partners outside the company.
Must become sufficiently knowledgeable of the products and markets to provide input to future product development.
Manages and communicates with all engineering personnel inside and outside the company to maximize each person's efficiency and contribution.

Qualifications:
15 years of related experience A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Experience leading projects from concept through implementation, including managing teams of people, schedules, and budgets.
Experience working with procurement and manufacturing as well as external suppliers to ensure proper implementation of product designs A proven record of independent technical contributions in-support of program objectives.
This record should include patents, publications, company awards, or other evidence of superior technical acumen and accomplishments.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to function effectively as part of a larger team Demonstrated success leading teams involved with the development of complex products/systems.
Experience managing activity across multiple departments and working in a highly independent and matrix environment.
Must have a working understanding of hardware, firmware, software, product validation, and manufacturing.
Project Management education, training and / or PMP certification preferred Willing and able to travel domestically and/or internationally as required to meet business or customer objectives.
